Hanzi Keeper
A question of Chinese on your Lock Screen, every half hour
by default. One tap. Most days you never open the app.
Hanzi Keeper is for people who learned Chinese and are losing it, and for
learners who want the commonest characters to stick. It does not teach a
course. It keeps what you already have, and brings in new characters a few a
day, by turning the dozens of times a day you glance at your phone into review
you never had to decide to do.
What it does
- A question on the Lock Screen, answered with one tap; up to four choices on the Home Screen.
- Question types only Chinese has: look-alike characters, tones, measure words.
- The one or two words a character lives in, and for thousands of characters an example sentence, most of them written by people on Tatoeba.
- A square to trace the character, History of every answer, and bookmarks for characters and words.
- An evening recap: on a day with five answers or more on the widgets by its time (8 p.m. unless you change it), one notification, and a minute to go over up to ten of the day's characters.
- In English, French, Japanese and Korean, interface and meanings.
- Free for the 3,500 characters of everyday Chinese. Pro, one price with no subscription, opens all 9,312 and every character you know on the Lock Screen. It also adds Focus, so new characters come first from a topic you choose, and two more Home Screen widgets.
